Antonio Delluzio

Antonio Delluzio

Antonio Delluzio, originally from Lecce, Italy, graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown. During his years at the academy, he learned the tricks of the darkroom, and his passion for photography grew. He loves experimental and research photography, using various mediums to arrive at the final image, sometimes with a visionary expression. His photography aims not necessarily to be technically perfect, but to be a discovery, a curiosity, a perception, a way of feeling reality in an alternative manner.

It's a photograph far from chaos, more intimate and, perhaps, melancholic. His studies at the Academy of Fine Arts tie him to the world of painting, and in a sense, he likes to say that he tries to paint with the camera. In reality, what he truly seeks is to imagine the spirit of things, the aura that surrounds them, especially in his recent work. A distinctive element that makes him recognizable is the technique used for most of his projects. It's characterized by trials, experiments, attempts, and variations. A technique he calls BEYOND, because he conceives his creations as visual and material experiences to go beyond the mere realistic representation of things and people. The effect achieved does not involve the use of photo editing software except for contrast or tonal corrections.

The "liquefaction," the evanescence of forms, the jagged and fleeting outlines are the result of a series of relatively controllable and non-repeatable adjustments, immediately captured by the camera. The randomness and non-reproducibility of the shot allow him to make each image obtained unique and meaningful. This process brings him back to his original studies, as the painterly image itself recalls them.
