Luisa Valenzano

Luisa Valenzano is a figurative artist who engages in various projects to promote contemporary art and collaborations across the fields of art, curation, and graphic design. She portrays figures and conveys feelings of anticipation, tension, fear, emotion, and psychology through her paintings on canvas, wood, and metal. She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari, and in 2001, she founded 'ARTEMISIA,' an artistic association, gallery, and workshop in Casamassima (Ba). Valenzano has taught painting and manipulative techniques at the 'Centro Poliespressivo' in Casamassima and in several schools in Bari’s district. From a young age, she has participated in regional, national, and international art contests, receiving positive reviews and awards. Following her studies at the Academy, she focused on painting diaries, describing private moments shared by the female universe or childhood subjects surrounded by intense and warm light. Art, for her, is a means of expressing and communicating her personal experiences. In her current work on 'shields,' she is conducting research on the concept of personal defense. Her choice to use drum plates is linked to the analogy with Perseus's shield, which the hero used to protect himself from Medusa. These plates produce different sounds and vibrations when struck. When a bronze plate is cracked, the damage compromises the sounds, similar to living beings who, when emotionally or physically impacted, must adapt or suffer
