Antonio Gregorio Maria Nuccio

Antonio Gregorio Maria Nuccio

Antonio Nuccio was born on October 5, 1978, in Palermo. He first learned about art theory and technique at Eustachio Catalano High School. After 1998, he continued his studies at the Art Academy of Palermo, where he attended courses in decoration and began to focus on painting on canvas. The artist is a descendant of Giuseppe and Luigi Di Giovanni, important painters of Palermo during the 19th and 20th centuries. Their works are curated by Antonio’s father, Aldo Nuccio. Antonio’s early paintings are characterized by melancholic tones, reflecting a difficult period in his life following the death of his mother. After this phase, his artworks began to show the artist's desire to 'play with our fantasies through his characters' gestures,' which became a hallmark of his style. In his works, the presence of needlework and dress decorations reminiscent of the textures of Palermo’s aristocratic residences recalls his Sicilian background and the atmosphere of 'Gattopardo'. In the Sicilian art scene, characterized by numerous artistic languages, local differences, and a desire to promote contemporaneity, Nuccio’s art stands out for its clarity, directness, and instinctiveness. His style is recognizable to the public for its sensuality, typical of Sicilian nobility at the end of the 19th century
